Hearing loss

Hearing loss is a natural consequence of getting older. Another common reason for hearing problems is exposure to noise. But hearing loss can also be caused by other factors. Hearing loss can have a range of consequences. The implications differ from person to person, but most people with hearing impairment suffer some social, psychological and physical problems as a result of their hearing loss. In most cases, hearing loss is treated with the use of hearing aids.

Tinnitus

Tinnitus is sounds in the ears or head which do not come from external sound sources. Tinnitus can be experienced as e.g. a hissing or ringing sound. Almost everybody experiences temporary tinnitus, but many have permanent tinnitus which some find very annoying. A connection between tinnitus and hearing loss has been proven and many people with tinnitus often also have a hearing loss.

The ear

A hearing loss occurs when the ear’s ability to conduct sound from the outer ear, through the middle ear into the inner ear and further into the brain is damaged or reduced.
