Your ears need earwax. The wax is used to lubricate the skin of the auditory canal, and to transport dust, dirt, dead skin cells and other material out of the ear.
Ears clogged with earwax are not particularly nice. This is why most people remove the wax as soon as possible. But the earwax is important.
Never put cotton buds or other objects into your ears. Such objects can clog up the ears and make matters worse rather than alleviate the problem. You even risk perforating your eardrums, resulting in bleeding and temporary hearing loss.
If your ears need to be cleaned, you should wrap a damp cloth around your index finger and carefully wash your ears with circular movements. Never use anything else!
Clogged ears? See your doctor
Ear wax is produced in glands which are positioned in the thick skin along the outer auditory canal. Consult your family doctor if wax production seems excessive or if a foreign object becomes lodged inside your ear. If you attempt to remove the object yourself, you may push it even further into the ear. If an insect has sought refuge inside your ear you should put a few drops of mineral oil into the ear. The oil will pacify the insect, upon which your family doctor can remove it.
