The non-profit organisation World Wide Hearing has made this informative video “Hearing Aids Will Connect You” on hearing loss and the benefits of using hearing aids.
World Wide Hearing www.wwhearing.org is a non-profit organization that provides access to affordable hearing aids to children and youth in developing countries. World Wide Hearing runs projects in countries like Brazil, Canada, China, Guatemala, India, Jordan, The Philippines and Vietnam.
According to the World Health Organization, 642 million people in the world suffer from hearing loss. Of these, 181 million are children. 278 million people suffer from hearing loss so disabling that activities most people take for granted, like having a conversation, are impossible for them without a hearing aid.
The majority live in developing countries and almost none have access to hearing aids or services. For many people in these countries the cost of hearing care is simply unaffordable and there are too few audiologists working in poor countries to provide treatment for everyone. As a result, fewer than 1 in 40 people in the developing world who need a hearing aid have access to one.
World Wide Hearing is supported by EHIMA (European Hearing Instrument Manufacturers Association), who also support hear-it.org.
