Blue collar workers wait longer than white collar workers before seeking treatment for hearing loss.
A scientific study indicated that less educated individuals and blue collar workers with hearing loss are slower in seeking treatment than white collar workers and others with higher education. The findings were published by The Laryngoscope Journal.
The study included blue collar and white collar workers aged 24-78 years who went to their doctors with unilateral sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL).
The study found that within no more than three days from the first presenting symptom of SSNHL, 71.7 percent of the white collar group were admitted as compared to 29.5 percent of the blue collar group. The results indicated with statistical certainty that lower education was associated with later admission time.
