Alerting devices

Most alarms and warning systems use noise to draw attention. For hearing-impaired people such devices might be of limited use. It is possible to get alarm clocks with flashing lights or vibrating pads which will move inside the pillow.

A doorbell can also be attached to a flashing light. You could also have extension door bells installed in different places in the home.

Smoke alarms have a rather high pitch signal, which may not be able to alert a hearing-impaired person. Today, special alarms have been developed to use both visual and vibrating stimuli to alert the hearing-impaired person.
