Cabinet member with hearing loss

A significant hearing loss does not slow the career of Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth, Sweden's Minister of Culture.

The 51 year-old cabinet member has suffered from hearing problems throughout her life. And she did think twice before she accepted the demanding position in the Swedish government.

”My hearing loss is severe enough that I cannot determine the direction of the sound I hear. I have never heard birds singing. I also have trouble with foreign languages and this was one barrier that caused me to hesitate before accepting this job,” she told the Swedish Aftenposten newspaper.

The Swedish cabinet member is a living example of how someone with hearing problems can still make it to the top. Lena Adelshon Liljeroth was also named one of Sweden’s most powerful women by the Swedish Veckans Affärer news magazine.
