Compensation claims for work related hearing loss
Increasing numbers of New Zealanders file claims for work related hearing injuries. Growing numbers are awarded financial compensation.
Data from The Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC), which administers the New Zealand accident compensation scheme, show that the total compensation for noise induced hearing loss exceeds €20 million a year which is double that of five years ago.
In just the region of Wanganui-Manawatu with a population of about 43,000 the ACC has received hundreds of claims for hearing loss over the past year worth nearly €1.8 million.
