EU awards honouring noise prevention

Far too many European workplaces are too noisy. In the battle against noise the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work recognised the best noise injury prevention practices.

Awarding the 'European Good Practice Award 2005' was the culmination of the 2005 'Stop that noise!' EU campaign.

Thirty-two programmes from 19 countries were nominated for the awards to be given to the best workplace noise prevention practices. Six programmes received the highest recognition. The winners originated in Germany, Sweden, France, Holland, Denmark and The United Kingdom.

The noise prevention programmes addressed noise pollution in a variety of professions. One of the winners focused on agricultural noise.

The awards recognised businesses and organisations which in the opinion of the Work Environment Agency promoted outstanding and innovative ways of preventing risks due to noise in the workplace.
