Surveys conducted in seven countries among people with hearing loss show that hearing aid users feel less physically and mentally exhausted in the evenings than non-users.

Physical exhaustion

Among those who had a significant hearing loss and did not use hearing aids, around 60% said they often felt physically exhausted in the evenings, while only around 40% of those who used hearing aids said the same.

Mental exhaustion

When it came to mental exhaustion, around 50% of those who had a significant hearing loss and did not use hearing aids agreed that they often felt mentally exhausted in the evenings, while only around 30% of those who used hearing aids said they often felt mentally exhausted in the evenings.

The people who were interviewed were asked to respond to the questions: “In the evenings I often feel physically exhausted” and “In the evenings I often feel mentally exhausted”. The figures are added of those who “strongly agreed” and “rather agreed” with the two statements.

The questions were asked among other questions in the surveys EuroTrak and JapanTrak. The surveys were made in Italy, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Switzerland, Norway and Japan in 2012.

The figures were published in an article about the EuroTrak and the JapanTrak surveys in The Hearing Review March 2013.
