79% have difficulty hearing or know somebody who has, kfdm.com write. They also write that 83% of those between 21 and 45 have been home for the holidays and found an older family member or friend blasting the volume on their TV.

36 million Americans suffer from some kind of hearing loss, with only a quarter of these people recognising that they have a problem and seeking treatment. 36 million is greater than all those in the US who suffer from heart disease, cancer, multiple sclerosis, blindness, tuberculosis, venereal disease & kidney disease combined.

Furthermore, nearly 1 in 5 American adolescents have some level of hearing loss, a rate that has climbed substantially over the past two decades.
