Hearing loss treatment among top research priorities

Treatment of hearing loss is in fourth place on top-100 research priority list prepared for the US Congress.

”What are the pros and cons of new hearing aids, cochlear implants and other devices for age-related hearing loss?” is listed fourth on a top-100 research priority list prepared for the US Congress.
The list was submitted by the Institute of Medicine upon a congressional request. Congress has set aside USD 1.1 billion for federally funded research into treatment of yet to be specified diseases and conditions.

For benefit of patients
The research aim is to benefit patients and improve cost efficiency by generating knowledge to help the patients choose the best possible treatments.
Other top research priorities on the list include irregular heartbeat, prostate cancer, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and back pains.
