Hearing problems affect general health

Among hearing impaired people, 12% find that their health is bad. In the general population just 5.5% report a bad health condition.

The sharp difference between the health among hearing impaired people and in the general population is recorded by the Central Swedish Statistical Bureau (SCB) and published in the 2003 annual report of the Swedish association of hearing impaired people.

According to the national survey, hearing impaired women in the labour market are particularly susceptible to physical and mental problems. Almost 16 procent of them say that they suffer from health problems. This is more than three times the rate among women in general.
