If I think I have a hearing loss, what should I do?

If you think you have a hearing loss, you should do something about it. The worst thing you can do is ignore the problem. Normally, hearing loss is permanent, but there is help on offer.
The first thing you should do is contact your family doctor/GP or a hearing health care professional to have your ears examined and your hearing tested. In some cases, an ENT doctor can also examine your ears and your hearing.
If the hearing loss has occurred suddenly, you should not hesitate in contacting your doctor immediately.
Test and examination
A hearing test can tell you if you have a hearing loss or not. An examination of your ears may also tell you what may have caused your hearing loss.
If a hearing test confirms that you have a hearing loss which requires treatment, this treatment would normally be the use of hearing aids. Some hearing losses can be treated with surgery or other methods, but for most types of hearing loss, the right treatment would be the use of hearing aids.
