Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. Perhaps the missing new element is earplugs. Some wedding traditions are more damaging to your hearing than you might suspect.
The traditions associated with the biggets party of your life are endless. Each culture has its own ways of celebrating weddings, but one common element the world over is noise.
Crash, boom, bang!
In some countries, tradition demands that you tie noisy scraps of metal to the car of the newlyweds for them to drag behind them as they exit for their wedding night. In many European countries the guests form motorcades with horns blaring behind the newlyweds when departing the church for the reception.
Germans smash porcelain. The Danes clank on their plates and stomp their feet to demand that the happy couple kiss. In many countries, the joyous occasion is marked by gunfire into the sky. And just about everywhere, wedding parties reverberate with dancing, singing and band music at extreme noise levels.
Wedding traditions are inescapable parts of the festival of life. But be mindful of your hearing through it all. Protect it. Like your marriage, you want your hearing to last for the rest of your life.
