Skilled and unskilled workers are more likely to have hearing problems than other people. A Danish survey shows that 16.4 per cent of unskilled workers and 24.2 per cent of skilled workers aged 30 - 79 said that they had problems with their hearing. Farmers and other people who work with agricultural and other noisy machines are more at risk of damaging their hearing ability. Among people who are never exposed to noise at work only 6 per cent found that they had a hearing problem.
Activities in your leisure time can also affect your hearing ability. Some people like to listen to loud music, for example in headphones or at concerts. In the long term, this can affect your hearing ability. The same can be said about for example lawn movers, chainsaws and other noisy tools.
